I’m Ellen Shapiro: writer and graphic designer. This dual practice shapes how I think and work.

First, I’d like to introduce you to my books, especially my historical novel for young people, The Secret Buttons. Inspired by my mother’s experiences escaping from Nazi-occupied Vienna to pre-WWII England, it’s a book about immigration, resistance, and brave girls who can’t wait for anyone else to save themselves and others.
